New Philippines’ Sugar Standard

It was revealed by the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Products (BAFP) that the Philippines’ new Sugar Standard will apply to white sugar intended for human consumption without further processing as well as sugar sold directly to the final consumers and those used as ingredients in foodstuffs. 

The new standard that conforms to Codex Standard for Sugars (Codex Stan 212-1999; Amd. 1-2001) will come enter to force on 27 November 2009. 

The WTO’s notification of the draft standard is currently circulated for comments from members of WTO.  The final date for comments is 23 November 2009.
