EU’s new MLs of pesticides in foods and feeds
In June 2015, EU has published the Commission Regulation (EU) No.2015/896
amending Annex IV to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 as regards maximum residue levels for substances in foods and feeds of plant and animal origin. This new regulation makes changes that introduce revised texts and Maximum Levels (MLs) of several substances.
The regulation was published on 11 June 2015 and has come into force since 20 days following the publication which is 1 July 2015. The revised texts and MLs of substances are introduced in the latest regulation as a consequence of amending Annex IV to the previous regulation.
Revised texts and new MLs introduced by the new regulation (consequences of amending Annex IV to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005) are as the followings.
(1) the text of footnote 2 is replaced by the following:
“(2) Substances included in Annex IV without prejudice to other specific food and feed legislation, e.g. on food additives, food supplements, flavourings, etc.”
(2) The inserts of biocontrol agents and substances with new MRLs
A numbers of strains of “Trichoderma” which are biocontrol agents against fungal diseases of plants as well as “sucrose”, “geraniol” and “thymol” are inserted in alphabetical order.
These inserted Trichoderma strains include:
the entries “Trichoderma polysporum strain IMI 206039”, “Trichoderma asperellum (formerly T. harzianum) strains ICC012, T25 and TV1”, “Trichoderma atroviride (formerly T. harzianum) strains IMI 206040 and T11”, “Trichoderma harzianum strains T-22 and ITEM 908”, “Trichoderma gamsii (formerly T. viride) strain ICC080”, “Trichoderma asperellum (strain T34)”and “Trichoderma atroviride strain I-1237”.
In the previous regulation, no specific MRLs were set nor were the substances included, in this new regulation ,therefore, the default value of 0.01 mg/kg are applies for the mentioned “Trichoderma strains” , “sucrose”, “geraniol” and “thymol”.
(3) The entry “Ferric sulphate (Iron (III) sulphate)” is removed from the regulation.
(4) The reference to footnote 1 behind the entry “Folic acid” is replaced by a reference to footnote 2.
(5) A reference to footnote 2 behind the entry “Ferrous sulphate (Iron II sulphate)” is added.
